Why You Don’t Need An iPad Mini

Disclaimer: This is my opinion and only that, it is backed by my thoughts and opinions and nothing more. I do not claim to know anything more than the annoyingly popular rumors out there.

There have been a lot of rumors lately surrounding the iPad Mini and honestly I don’t care at all. I think it’s a waste of Apple’s time to build such an intermediate iDevice for such a small amount of folks (namely the cheap folks out there not willing to pay for quality). The reasoning in most folks mind is the price point and the competition, if you can call it that, from the Nexus and the Kindle Fire. This is not competition folks.

Tim Cook said it yesterday: Speaking of competing tablets as a whole, he said that he and Apple have “yet to see any of them gain what I would call anything like traction” and that customers are “looking for an iPad” rather than simply a tablet.

This was aimed at the Nexus and how folks are flocking to it due to it’s size. If you want a tablet, you get an iPad, no need for a small version. It honestly stunts the media output it’s famous for. Movies, games etc on a smaller iDevice? Get an iPhone!

So here are my thoughts on why you don’t need an iPad Mini….

Because you already have an iPad, because you will be buying the latest version of the iPhone which is rumored to be only 3 inches smaller than the iPad Mini. Instead of getting a smaller iDevice because your back hurts from lugging around this massive iPad, man up and work out! Your wife will hate you for putting your third iPad on craigslist so you can downgrade to a smaller iDevice that lacks the fun of watching Media in bed with her!

Although people will think you are comfortable with yourself carrying around a smaller iDevice and not needing the much larger iDevice, it still won’t get you the girls!

In all seriousness I am not telling you what to do, but rather telling you that you don’t need this imaginary iDevice.

You will purchase it only to find that you are content with what you have. Apple doesn’t need the extra cash or to totally squash the competition. Competition (if you can call it that) is not a bad thing.

My prediction, the iPad Mini will not happen, rather you will see a supped up version (3S version) of the iPad before Christmas of this year. After the iPhone 5 hits!

  1. Yes! You are a man after my own heart. :)

I’ve been saying that for the longest. The only benefit that an iPad mini will have is for reading and maybe games. You can’t type well with a 7.85 iPad, you can’t be productive, you are limited by space. The current iPad is the sweet spot.

The only other HUGE benefit that the rumored iPad mini will have is gaming. If Apple continues to shift the direction of gaming to iPod Touch, iPad and iPad mini and Apple TV, the iPad mini will be huge. A portable console-like gaming system. Outside of that, color me unimpressed.
