iDevice Travel

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been MIA from Geek for i for the past week. That’s because I had been traveling around central Europe with a builder’s group from my church! If you’re interested in the specifics of my trip you can find them here. As I was traveling through airports and around countries where the first language is not English, I used many different iPhone apps to help me along the way! iPad’s are great tools and you know I love mine, but I never took it out while walking through the airport. The iPhone is better suited for that kind of thing. That said, many of the apps and tips covered in this series will be central to the iPhone.

This series will review the apps I used and iDevice tips I developed in my travels abroad last week as well as some other travel apps available. If you have a travel app you would like to review here on Geek for i let me know! I’ll be more than happy to let you be a guest blogger!

  1. Definitely looking forward to reading this series. I travel to Central Europe at least once a year, and having apps on my iPhone to make getting through the airports easier would be amazing.

And I checked out the deets on your trip. I was in the Czech Republic from July 9-22 – pretty much one country over from where you were! It was my 7th time there doing ministry in the Eastern part of the country. Love it there, and hoping to get into Slovakia here soon.

    • Glad to have you following! Since I’ve got a Verizon iPhone and Europe doesn’t have CDMA, I relied on free WiFi in the airports. When I was over there in 2004 and 2008 it wasn’t as prevalent but it’s getting better.

I was in Prague in 2004 and loved it! This was my 3rd time to Slovakia helping the ministry in Martin. I am so in love with the CCE organization I talked about on my blog. They are doing some really amazing things for being only 20 years out of communism!

      • I have the Verizon iPhone as well, so I pretty much just use it for the wifi when I’m in Europe. Comes in handy when visiting coffee shops and the like.

Prague is an amazing city. I have been there 5 times now, more for the free days during mission trips, thought I have done some ministry in a town not too far outside Prague. Would have loved to have studied abroad there when I was in college.
