iPhone 5 (4S) rumored to ship when iOS 5 releases in August

Since iOS 5 was announced last month at WWDC 2011, iPhone 5 rumors have been flying all over the internets. Of course nobody knows when the new device will arrive until Steve Jobs and his turtle-neck comes out on stage somewhere but that won’t stop us from speculating. At this point it would be ridiculous for Apple to ship the iPhone 5, rumored to be called iPhone 4S, before iOS 5 is released. Meaning… the newest iPhone should come with iOS 5 pre-loaded. I think we can all agree with that. Our buddy Steve said iOS 5 would be pushed to the public in the fall.

I must point out that the image above is NOT an official iPhone 5 (4S) image. It’s a guess… a really snazzy guess though! I think I’m hooked on white iPhone’s for awhile now though.

Here are some of the rumors flying around:

  • Late August release
  • Radical new case design
  • Possible “teardrop” case
  • Home button doubles as gesture area
  • Edge-to-edge screen
  • Cable free charging
  • Near Field Communication swipe area
  • Global device (may use Qualcomm’s dual GSM / CDMA Gobi chipset)
  • Larger screen
  • iOS 5

I must point out that these are merely rumors and nothing more. There is some speculation that many Verizon customers are waiting for the iPhone 5 (4S) to be released before they ditch their Android phones. Since the iPhone 4 launched on Verizon in February 2011, nearly 8 months after being out on AT&T… we figure many loyal Verizon customers are just waiting until the new device hits the market to jump the Android ship.

Which rumor from the list above are you most excited about?

  1. Cable free charging would be sweet. I already have one cable to many…

    • I agree! We’ve seen cable free charging before from 3rd party add-on makers. But I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that to have Apple perfect this technology would be a dream!
