iPad: It’s Game Time

Posted by K.C. with 2 Comments

We’re all busy.

  • We’re busy at the office with work
  • We’re busy at home with family
  • We’re busy at Starbucks with friends
  • We’re busy at rush hour in traffic with everyone else who is busy

The iPad has proven to be a nearly limitless tool with plenty of applications for productivity.

However, it’s also a fantastic gaming device. In fact the iPad is so good at gaming that’s why I have a separate device just for reading (Kindle). Every time I would pick up the iPad to read a book I’d find myself playing a game or checking Facebook instead.

DISCLAIMER: I’m still an avid reader and average 2 books a month.

I’m not the best gamer in the world, and I try (in vain) to minimize distractions, but there are 3 apps that will be living on my iPad for quite awhile.

Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD

This is one of the best racing games on the iPad. The accelerometer controls are smooth, the graphics are stunning and there is a wide range of customizable cars to choose from. Race types are varied and provide unique challenges at different stages. Asphalt 6 is a 5 star experience.

Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard HD

This game blew me away. I’m partial to first person shooters, but this is ridiculous. Have you ever been playing a game and you find yourself whipping the controller around trying to see around a corner? Well, with the accelerometer controls you can do that. Shadow Vanguard is the closest thing to virtual reality a handheld device gets. Just don’t walk around while you play.

Real Steel

I haven’t actually played this one, but after seeing the movie together with my son I bought the app for him. He asks to play it every day. The one draw back is 2 of the iconic robots from the film, Atom & Zeus, are only available by purchasing an expansion.

BONUS: Infinity Blade II

I don’t have this one yet, but I’m a big fan of the first Infinity Blade on the iPhone. After Matt’s review of Infinity Blade II a couple of months ago it’s been on the top of my wishlist.

What games do you recommend for the iPad?
Do you use technology to relax and unwind?

  1. I don’t traditionally like tower defense games however I really enjoy the iBomber Defense series. The new version iBomber Defense Pacific is a great addition to the game while not making a huge update with all new gameplay making it very “upgrade” friendly to people like me who don’t do well with BIG changes to familiar games. The new maps with additions of newer game play, units and challenges make a great addition to my game time on my iPad. With 3 smaller children I don’t get much time to play games but when I do iBomber is my go-to game.
