Apple Kicks YouTube App to the Curb

iOS6 (1)

Yesterday, Apple released the 4th version of iOS 6 beta to developers.

The most notable change is that Apple removed the native YouTube app.

Cue the confetti!

Personally, I think it’s about time YouTube was booted from iOS. I don’t like using the app and have had it in a “never use” folder along with some other native apps for over a year.

While Apple likely removed YouTube based on it’s “divorce” from default Google settings (maps, search, etc) I’m happy to see it go for the simple reason that it didn’t work properly.

Any time I’ve tried to use the search functionality of the YouTube app it always shot out results that had nothing to do with the search terms and it never matched the results of the website.

One reason I love Mac products is “they just work”. In my book the YouTube app didn’t fit this basic requirement.

Questions: What do you think of YouTube being removed from iOS?
Are there any other native apps that should be deleted?
