Facebook Coming To Your iPad, Is It Too Late?

Posted by Matthew Snider with 11 Comments

Since day one of the iPad there has been a back and forth from Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg, and the users of Facebook, over whether or not the iPad is a “mobile” platform.

Well I think the community of over 500 million Facebookers (I am proudly not one of them!) have won on this bet.

With plenty of applications out there for Facebook on the iPad such as MyPad+, Friended, Friendly (my wife uses this one), is it too late for an official app from the folks at Facebook headquarters?

The New York times is claiming a little inside information surrounding the new app coming to your iPad “in the coming weeks”.

The app has been in production at Facebook for almost a year, going through several design iterations, and is now in the final stages of testing, according to these people, who declined to be named because they were discussing confidential product plans.

Wonder if it will be a universal app instead of an iPad specific? I assume it will be an iPad only application in and of itself.

This is my opinion but I assume money is the driving factor behind the change of mind. Money can do amazing things to peoples brains!

Are you going to use the new app? Are you on Facebook?

  1. I’m on FB because the majority of the people I pastor are on FB. And yes I’d like an actual FB app for my iPad. I’ve tried MyPad and it’s terrible.

Side note: I’d love to see what you guys recommend using to speak from. (an app)

    • A very valid point. FB for me was becoming to awkward with my high school friends of over 15 years ago so I deleted my account a couple of weeks ago.

Look for a review of some apps coming up Michael!

  2. I always wondered why FB didn’t make its own iPad app. I’ve used others (Friendly), but mostly stick with just Safari on my iPad for facebook use. It does the job for the most part. I actually avoid FB on the iPhone because I don’t care for any of the interfaces. But I’m not an avid FB user, I just get on to see what my friends are up to. I’ll probably try the app (as long as its free!) and see if it is better than just hoping on Safari.

    • I actually think it’s weird that they are considering an app. The site works just fine in Safari for iPad.

      • It’s kind of a thing nowadays for everyone to make an app. The whole “web is dead” discussion – everyone needs an app because nobody uses a browser anymore – possibly added to it (not that I think the web is dead). But most likely it’s a money thing at some level like Matthew out.

  3. I’d use it for sure. I’m not a fan of Friendly!

  4. I think it will be released on iPad and iPhone. They are both iOS-based so it would only make sense to do both. Plus, the iPhone app could use an upgrade. It’s super buggy.

I’m still hoping to win an iPad in one of these contests one day!
